Part-time (25 hours) Cleaner for Colchester

YMCA Essex is currently recruiting for a Cleaner to work at their Housing Project in Colchester.

The supported housing project is for 16-25 years olds and consists of 44 bedsits over the ground, 1st and 2nd floor. There are two office areas, a staff room and a communal room for residents.

We are looking for a proactive self starter who can interact with our vulnerable, young client group whilst working to a schedule. The successful candidate must be able to multitask and manage priorities.

They will work closely with the Maintenance Officer and Deputy Housing Manager to ensure tasks are completed and empty properties are made ready to let promptly.

Duties are on a daily, weekly, fortnightly and monthly task basis to include keeping the building clean and tidy, health and safety compliant and managing end of tenancy bedsit cleans.

The successful candidate will need to be able to move furniture and use a vacuum cleaner over several staircases/floors.

Some of our client group have entrenched lifestyle issues and as such when they move on their rooms can be in a poor condition of cleanliness. The successful candidate must be happy to “muck in” and be prepared to clean what are, on occasion, rather unsanitary bedsits.

Examples of tasks are:

  • Daily vacuuming
  • Washing windows
  • Vacuuming halls and stairs over three floors
  • Cleaning offices/staff kitchen and lavatory
  • Moving heavy items
  • Stock replenishment
  • Replacing curtains/lampshades etc
  • Maintaining a stock of donated items

This position is for a one year, part-time, fixed term contract. Closing date for applications Monday 19 March 2018 at 5pm. Any applications received after that date will not be considered.

YMCA Chelmsford Trustees (voluntary appointments)

YMCA Chelmsford is passionate about building lives, hope and futures for children, young people and families. We serve the needs of our local community providing a nursery, out of school & holiday clubs, youth training, family support work & youth work.

We are seeking to appoint trustees to strengthen our Board as we expand our work. We are especially looking for people with experience in capital fundraising projects.

Board meetings take place every 6-8 weeks, for 2-3 hours – a commitment of approximately 8 meetings per year, plus additional Board training and sub committees as needed.
