Chair of the Board
Roger joined the Board as a trustee in November 2012 and has been the Chair of the Board of trustees since February 2015.
1. Tell us about yourself
I’m lucky to have a great close family with my wife, two daughters and two grandsons. I’m very involved in our church community, and I like going for long walks, watching movies and live music, and playing the piano though I should practise more!
2. What made you want to work at YMCA Essex?
YMCA makes a massive difference to the lives of the young people and families we care for. It’s a real privilege to be able to support this work as a trustee.
3. What are you really passionate about?
Ways we can make the world a better place! To share what we have so that everyone gets a good life and no one is left struggling on the margins. To live unselfishly as communities who care for each other. To change our lifestyles for the sake of our precious and fragile environment.
4. What are some of your favourite memories of your time with us?
There are so many! Hearing the amazing stories of young people living at YMCA Colchester. Joining families at YMCA Chelmsford nursery and pre-school for the children’s Christmas celebrations. The inspiring Awards Evenings we hold every year. Perhaps above all, the big party we had in December 2016 when YMCAs in Colchester and Chelmsford merged to create YMCA Essex, serving the whole county from Harlow to Harwich and Braintree to Basildon.
5. What are you looking forward to next?
I just want the work of YMCA Essex to keep on growing, so we can help more and more young people and families to have the best possible lives.
