New Year’s Honours 2022

We are proud and delighted to announce that one of our volunteers (and former Chairperson) Mr Roger McFarland has been awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) for services to the charity and the county of Essex over many years.

Roger joined the Board as a trustee in November 2012 and has been an influential and key part in helping us achieve our mission ever since. In 2016, Roger and his team helped us merge YMCA Chelmsford and YMCA Colchester together to become YMCA Essex.

Speaking of receiving the honour of an MBE this New Year, Roger is quoted as saying:  ‘I am delighted to receive this honour in recognition of the time I have been a trustee of YMCA Essex and all that we have achieved. I want to pay tribute to YMCA’s fantastic staff and volunteers (including my trustee colleagues) because everything that YMCA does for the community, and all the progress we’ve made during my time as a trustee, has been as a result of their vision, dedication and hard work. I know we want to grow even further, to give more young people homes and futures across the county, and I hope this honour can in some way help propel us all forward to achieve those aims.’

Roger was our Chair of the Board of trustees from 2015-2021 and remains on our Board today, volunteering his time and expertise to help us support children, young people and families across Essex.
